With this issue,
OJHAS is completing nine years of publication. Starting at a time
when the Open Access movement had just begun, OJHAS is one of the
first such online only biomedical journal to be launched from India.
In the past nine years, OJHAS has grown from strength to strength,
being archived in
Cogprints and
Openmed and listed
in many other databases. OJHAS has carried valuable articles from
across the globe, form United states to Thailand, from United
Kingdom to Africa. It has been a platform for many scientists from
the developing world who find it difficult to publish their works in
print or paid online journals. OJHAS has grown from issue to issue
and the current issue is carrying more than 30 articles. Growing in
its strength, OJHAS can now look forward to getting indexed in
larger databases.
Until now, OJHAS has
remained truly free for publication, with no charges levied on the
authors. The journal does not host any advertisements either, except
for the Google ads that have not brought much income (approx.
$100-150 a year!) All the page editing work is done single handedly by the Chief
Editor on a voluntary spirit. With increasing workload, this
is slowly proving to be a onerous task. There have been many
suggestions to get the page editing out-sourced, but as it involves
quite a lot of money, we have not been able to even think of it. We
therefore invite your opinion on this issue, whether OJHAS should
now start charging a fee for publication of accepted articles, and
if yes, what should be its quantum, and what would be the
implications for researchers/authors from Institutions that may not
support such payments. Please mail to
